2009 Management Clinic Takes Aim at Struggling Economy
The schedule for the 2009 Management Clinic, presented by the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA), has been built to include sessions that address the challenging marketplace and tighter economy. “Our goal this year was to offer our attendees a program that would directly address the tough economic climate,” said ANLA President Greg Schaan, of Imperial Nurseries (Conn.).
Sessions including “Preparing to Meet Your Banker: The New Credit Reality,” presented by longtime industry consultant George Koziarz, will cover important skills for weathering a challenging economy. The full schedule for the 2009 ANLA Management Clinic, the green industry’s premier business education event, scheduled for Feb. 6 to 9 in Louisville, Ky., is now available at www.managementclinic.org.
The 2009 Management Clinic also will explore new revenue opportunities including the growing market for sustainable products and how to bridge the demographic gap between the baby boomer and younger generations.
“We know that sales among our existing customers are likely to shrink in this economy,” said Scott Price, ANLA Management Clinic programming committee co-chairman, of Snow’s Inc. (Va.). “As business owners and managers, we can’t only cut costs; we’ve got to aggressively look for new sources of revenue to replace those lost sales.”
It’s not all doom and gloom, Scott said. “The ANLA Management Clinic is the place where I always come to get recharged, and this year will be more important than ever. There will certainly be some frank talk about the realities of this market, but this is a group that is always looking forward to the future.”
