Attend The Penn State Flower Trial Field DaySource: Penn State University

The 2007 Flower Trial Field Day, co-sponsored by Penn State Cooperative Extension, Capital Regional Greenhouse Advisory Committee and PA Floral Industries Association, is set to take place on July 26, 2007, at the Southeast Research Center and Extension Center in Manheim, Pa. Attendees will see more than 1,100 vegetative and seed-propagated annuals grown in containers. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m.

The event will kick off with a silent auction. Proceeds will go to the Floriculture Program in the Capital Region. Donations are being accepted by Dale Rutherford. He can be reached at drutherford@dejazzed.com or (717) 626-2930. There are many other event highlights:

  • Guided tours, trial grounds update and visit with plant suppliers with Alan Michael and Rob Berghage.
  • Scott Trees, plant breeder director of Ball FloraPlant, will present “Future of Plant Breeding – What New Plants Are Being Hybridized.”
  • Kerry Richards, Penn State University, will present “Managing Pests Safely.”
  • A panel of growers and manufacturers will present “Greenhouse Heating – How We Have Adapted.”
