OFA Short Course Offers Growers Greenhouse Solutions
Growers attending the 2007 OFA Short Course, July 14-17, 2007, in Columbus, Ohio, will find solutions to today’s business challenges. The session tracks are divided into greenhouse production, greenhouse advanced and greenhouse survival.
Here is an overview of some of the sessions:
Container Workshop. Attendees will learn how to put plant combinations together and experiment with texture, foliage, colors and flowers.
Plant growth management symposium. With all the new PGRs introduced to the market, how do they work? Learn how environmental and cultural parameters influence plant growth and how to control them.
Lean Manufacturing Workshops. These workshops will demonstrate how to define value and waste in core processes, map the stream of value-creating activities that produce what customers want and generate continuous improvement.
Floriculture College of Knowledge. The Michigan State University program will offer its Track I and II courses, which include seedling plug production, root zone management, bedding plant production and environmental management.
Other general sessions also will be offered. Speakers will share their experience and expertise on topics such as tank mixing, water sanitation, surviving the energy crisis, sustainable horticulture, greenhouse automation and advanced drop nutrition.
In addition, an all-day greenhouse tour will serve as an on-the-road learning lab for growers on July 14. Participants in this year’s tour will examine the facilities and operations from the ground up of two progressive growers, and learn how they continue to turn production and business challenges to their advantage. The tour will begin with trips to Bob’s Market & Greenhouses and McClish’s Plants Plus Greenhouses, then finish at the Ohio State University Horticulture and Crop Science facilities.
