Web Site Helps Simplify Environmental RegulationsSource: University of Illinois

A new University of Illinois Web site is helping green industry professionals better understand the state’s environmental regulations. The site allows users to access regulatory information on four different operation types – ornamental horticulture production, landscape maintenance, food crop production and livestock production.

The Web site, www.ezregs.uiuc.edu, has a database of 13 sets of regulations where horticulture and agriculture professionals can access the latest regulatory information. Many of the regulations also have an “interpretation block” that helps explain the regulations in layman’s terms.

There also is a glossary section following many of the regulations for users to refer to as they use the site. According to Ted Funk, an extension specialist at the University of Illinois and one of the co-authors of the Web site, future updates to the regulations database will include the addition of the state’s noxious weed law and drainage law.
