Making the Finals
Last week, I received word from Folio: magazine that GPN was named as a finalist for a 2016 Eddie Award for Best Single Issue.
Folio: magazine is the magazine for people who produce magazines.
Folio:’s Eddie Awards program “celebrates excellence in editorial and design.” It is the largest awards competition in the publishing industry — and GPN was the only magazine in the horticulture industry to qualify for this year’s awards.
Even though it is the 2016 awards, it was the July 2015 issue of GPN (see photo below) that was selected. To be eligible for this year’s program, entries had to be published between July 1, 2015 and July 1, 2016.
That issue (like every issue) is packed with information and insight as GPN celebrated its 25th birthday. Some of the features that were included in that issue were the new introductions from last year’s California Spring Trials, the benefits of boom lighting, tips for water management in the greenhouse, and dealing with shipping issues as well as all of our regular departments that our readers rely on each month.

Everyone at GPN is extremely proud to qualify for the finals for this year’s Eddie competition. It’s always nice to get recognized for doing your job but that’s what we are here for — to provide information to help you do your job and be more successful.
The Eddie Grand Award winners will be announced at the end of this month in New York.

Scholarship Application Deadline is Almost Here
I wanted to remind you that the deadline to apply for the 2017 GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year scholarship is less than two weeks away (Oct. 19).
If you know a college student that participated in an internship program this year, then that student might just be eligible to:
- Receive a check for $3,000;
- Be featured in an article and on the cover of the January 2017 issue of GPN;
- Receive travel and hotel expenses to Cultivate’17 in Columbus, Ohio, next July as well as a complimentary full Cultivate’17 registration.
