A Beautiful Day for a Stroll Through the Gardens By Tim Hodson

Mother Nature was shining brightly on the Gardens at Ball on Friday for Ball Seed Field Day and Landscape Day 2017.

Thanks to the gorgeous weather, approximately 1,300 people were expected to stroll through the gorgeous gardens and displays this year.

The Gardens at Ball are made up of more than 9 acres of display beds for annuals, perennials, cut flowers and vegetables, as well as comparison trials and even has an All-America Selections trial bed.

During the day, attendees had a chance to tour Ball’s Premier Lab, the seed distribution area as well as take guided garden tours led by Ball’s team of plant experts or self-guided tours.

Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about the different plants Ball Seed offers and other tips to help improve their business with presentations and demonstrations from the Ball Seed team.

When I attended Darwin Perennial Days in the Gardens in late June, the plantings were just starting to take shape for this year’s Field Day. It was amazing to see how much can happen in a little more than a month.

The Chicagoland has had some challenging weather conditions this summer, but you would never have known that judging by how amazing the plants looked. Hats off to the entire team that made everything happen. And thank you to Mother Nature for behaving herself and making for a wonderful day in the Gardens.

I’ve posted a few photos from the Field Day on the GPN and Lawn & Garden Retailer Facebook pages. Be sure to check them out.

If you’ve never had a chance to attend Ball Seed’s Field Day, I can’t recommend it enough. It always takes place at the end of July, so you might want to start planning for Ball Seed Field Day and Landscape Day 2018 now.
