Time to Expand Your Knowlege
As you start to prepare for winter, hopefully you and your staff will have a little time to catch up on those things you’ve been meaning to do during the busy season — like taking the time to expand your greenhouse knowledge.
This winter Michigan State University Extension’s Online College of Knowledge will be offering three courses in its greenhouse series.
Growers looking to prepare their operations for the 2018 season can take courses on: Greenhouse and Horticultural Lighting, Biological Control for Greenhouse Growers, and Floriculture Root Zone Management.
The series is an excellent resource for growers who may be new to the industry or for those who are looking to enhance their education when it comes to greenhouse production and pest management.
All three courses are self-paced, so enrollees can participate at their discretion and when it fits their schedule. Students enrolled in these courses will take a pre-test and a final exam to gauge their progress on the topics covered. There also will be self-assessment quizzes throughout the courses.
For the first time ever, the Biological Control for Greenhouse Growers course will be offered in Spanish.
Heidi Lindberg, greenhouse and nursery Extension educator with MSU Extension, will lead all three courses.
The Greenhouse Lighting course was adapted and updated from the original College of Knowledge unit developed by Royal Heins (Professor Emeritus, MSU) and includes a substantial amount of recent research by GPN regular contributor Erik Runkle. Additional content including videos demonstrating concepts are from Roberto Lopez and Garrett Owen.
MSU’s Kristin Getter designed, authored and updated the Root Zone Management course. The original College of Knowledge class was developed by John Biernbaum and later revised by Dean Krauskopf at MSU.
The content for the Biological Control course was co-authored by GPN regular columnist Raymond Cloyd at Kansas State University.
