An Ultra Choice for 2018
Last week, the color experts at Pantone announced the Color of the Year for 2018.
And the winner is ….
… Ultra Violet!
According to Pantone, Ultra Violet (PANTONE 18-3838) is “a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade … that is said to communicate originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points toward the future.”
Ultra Violet follows the 2017 Color of the Year — Greenery.
“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
She adds, “From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
According to the color experts, Ultra Violet is complex and contemplative and it suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead and the discoveries beyond where we are now. It represents the vast and limitless night sky and is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.
Nuanced and full of emotion, Pantone says the depth of Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.
Wow, that’s an awful lot to think about, isn’t it? But when you do think about it, that does seem like a pretty accurate description of the color.
What do you think of Pantone’s choice for 2018? There are quite a few varieties out there that incorporate Ultra Violet; are you growing any of them?
