An Insider’s Look at Profit Margins
A lot has happened in our industry over the last 10 years to influence the profitability of greenhouse growers. Input costs have continued to climb while retail prices have not kept up at the same pace. This has really affected the bottom line of pretty much everyone.
To help educate growers on this topic, Charlie Hall, Ellison Chair at Texas A&M University and AmericanHort’s chief economist, will present an online four-part video series, “Industry Insider Report: A Perspective on Profit Margins.” The special series begins this week.
During the video series, Hall will take a look at how our industry has structured its “profit margins” over the years and the different factors that have impacted them over the past decade — and most importantly, how they will look in the future.
Hall will be taking a deep dive into what has been influencing our industry’s profitability and what you can do to improve your company’s financial performance.
Each week, AmericanHort will release a new video featuring Hall’s presentation. The topics that will be covered include:
- Introduction: Why this project was undertaken and its significance for the industry’s future
- Costs and effects of labor
- Costs and effects of energy & fertilizer
- Costs and effects of logistics & transportation
At the conclusion of the video series, there will be a live webinar Q&A with Hall and many of the business leaders who participated in the study to gain even more insight into this complex topic.
