Learning from the Experts By Tim Hodson

Did you know that legal cannabis sales are predicted to top $20 billion* in North America by 2021? In 2016, that figure was only $6.7 billion.

This compound annual growth rate of 25 percent is forecast as more states continue to legalize both the medical and recreational use of cannabis.

It is a burgeoning market that many floriculture producers are getting into to as they look for ways to expand the business operations.

Are you considering growing cannabis in your greenhouses?

If you are, you should attend the inaugural 2018 GPN Cannabis Conference this summer.

The one-day conference will take place July 14, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus, Ohio.

During the conference, you will have the opportunity to gain insight into the cannabis business, as well as production tips and guidelines for growing cannabis.

We have lined up a roster of experts who are actively involved in the cannabis industry to share their knowledge and expertise with attendees.

Calvin Shannon will provide a “Cannabis Business Primer: Tax, Accounting, and Legal Issues You Need to Know.” Shannon is a principal with Bridge West CPAs and Consultants. He assists organizations address the cannabis industry’s unique and ever-evolving issues.

“Cannabis Production Considerations” will be covered by Allison Justice, vice president, cultivation, at OutCo, a California-based cannabis grower, distributor and dispensary. Justice has been doing research on LED lighting and mobile racking systems to help OutCo double its production capabilities. Justice is also an alum of GPN’s 40 Under 40 program.

Joanne Lutz, technical specialist at GGSPro, will discuss “Integrated Pest Management for Cannabis.” During her presentation, she will cover how growers can use biological control agents for insect and mite control. Lutz specializes in providing growers with technical advice and manages Griffin’s plant disease diagnostic and water testing programs.

Shannon, Justice and Lutz will then join Jim Barrett, professor emeritus at the University of Florida, for a panel discussion on Real World Solutions for cannabis growers. Since retiring from UF, Barrett has been consulting with growers entering the cannabis market and is now working exclusively with Aphria and Liberty Health Sciences in Florida.

The panel discussion will provide attendees with an opportunity to hear from experts who are working with cannabis and ask any questions that they may have.

The cost to attend GPN’s Cannabis Conference is only $129 — a very cost-effective investment to help educate you and your team on this emerging (and rapidly growing) market.
