Webinar to Address Immigration Issues By Tim Hodson

Next week, AmericanHort and the Western Nursery & Landscape Association will be presenting a webinar on I-9 Compliance and Immigration Enforcement.

With business immigration audits and raids making national news, this webinar is very timely for large growers.

It is scheduled to take place Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. EDT.

During the webinar, Chris Schulte of CJ-Lake LLC, and Craig Regelbrugge of AmericanHort, will discuss recent employment-related immigration law enforcement trends, and how horticulture businesses can best prepare for them.

Schulte and CJ-Lake LLC are nationally recognized for their legal expertise and accomplishments in agriculture and business-related employment and immigration law and compliance. Schulte advises and litigates on behalf of employers and employer associations on employment and business immigration matters, including wage and hour, H-2A and H-2B non-immigrant worker programs, and tax issues.

Regelbrugge is the senior vice president of industry advocacy and research for AmericanHort. He has more than 28 years of horticulture industry experience and is known expert on governmental affairs, immigration law, horticultural research and  other industry-related topics.

Lowe’s Hires New Supply Chain Chief

Earlier this week, Lowe’s announced that Donald E. Frieson has been named executive vice president, supply chain. Frieson will be responsible for the company’s distribution centers, logistics, global sourcing, transportation and delivery services. He will report to Marvin R. Ellison, president and CEO. Frieson has more than 30 years of operations and supply chain experience, including 19 years at Walmart. He most recently served as chief operating officer at Sam’s Club, where he was responsible for all club operations.

Publix to Relaunch Specialty Organic Food Stores

Grocery chain Publix plans to relaunch its GreenWise Market specialty, natural and organic food stores this fall. The first GreenWise Market will open in October in Tallahassee, Florida. Additional locations are expected to open next year in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Lakeland, Florida. The southeastern-based grocer continues to look for additional GreenWise Market locations throughout its operating area. “The new GreenWise Market concept features a simplified environment designed to show off our unique and house-made offerings,” said Kecin Murphy, senior vice president.

Tractor Supply Event Celebrates Pets in August

This month Tractor Supply Co. is showing its appreciation for animals and pet lovers with the month-long event Out Here With Animals. Throughout August, the rural lifestyle retailer will host a variety of animal-centric events and deals including sponsoring a pet supplies drive at stores where customers are invited to show their support for their local animal shelter community by dropping off new sealed food, toys, cleaning supplies and other essential pet supplies to be donated to nearby rescues and shelters. Tractor Supply is also hosting pet adoption events at stores across the country throughout the month.
