AmericanHort’s Active Agenda for 2019
Earlier this month, AmericanHort released its 2019 Legislative & Policy Agenda and it looks like Craig Regelbrugge, Tal Coley, Jill Calabro and Jennifer Gray are going to be incredibly busy this year.
For 2019, AmericanHort’s agenda has five target areas: Workforce; Transportation; Research; Environmental Sustainability and Regulation; and Trade and Horticultural Marketplace.
Improving the H2A and H2B programs so they work better for our industry has been a major priority for AmericanHort and this year the team will continue to look for appropriate labor solutions to help growers.
As transportation costs continue to climb and the number of drivers continues to shrink, AmericanHort is looking for ways to address these challenges and mitigate some of the burden on growers that comes with the current regulations.
One of the goals of the Horticultural Research Institute (AmericanHort’s research division) is to drive innovation through continuing research. This year, HRI will be looking at how our industry can improve through research initiatives that include plant pest and disease management, as well as mechanization and automation just to name a few.
This is just a sampling of what Craig, Tal, Jill and Jennifer will be working on during the year. So you can see it is going to be a very busy year!
