Is Hemp on Your Horizon? By Tim Hodson

Next month, GPN’s sister website, Hemp Production News will offer a free webinar on production considerations for industrial hemp for greenhouse growers, propagators and farmers.

The webinar will take place Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. EST.

Allison Justice, co-founder of SC Botanicals, will provide a broad overview of what is involved in growing hemp and the differences and similarities between industrial hemp and other commonly produced crops.

Topics covered will be:

  • potential profits
  • types of industrial hemp
  • yields
  • extraction techniques
  • plant pathogens and disease
  • genetics
  • sales routes

Justice, an alumnus of GPN’s 40 Under 40, graduated from Clemson University with a Ph.D. in Plant and Environmental Science.

Through research and education, Justice is elevating the standards of cannabis and hemp cultivation both indoors/greenhouse and in the field. Justice’s dissertation involved investigating the effects of a beneficial mycorrhizal type organism, where she learned that organic, sustainable growing can be easy, cost-effective, and produce aesthetically pleasing plants when done properly.

Justice has been a member of the California Industrial Hemp Advisory Board helping to advise policy and regulation for the California Industrial Hemp Program for two years.
