CSQ launches updated certification program for cannabis

Cannabis Safety and Quality (CSQ) announced the launch of its finalized CSQ 2.0 Certification Program, available for licensed cannabis and hemp operators, retailers and distributors.

The updated program follows public comment periods in April and July and introduces a level-based, modular system designed to help operators meet business and regulatory requirements. Certification audits under the new framework will begin in January 2026.

CSQ 2.0 features five scope-specific modules covering cultivation, manufacturing, extraction, warehousing and distribution, and retail. It also includes an optional dietary supplement addendum that can be applied to any certification standard.

Each certification standard aligns with international quality and safety practices, including current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (cGACP), Good Distribution Practices (cGDP), and Good Handling Practices (cGHP).

The retail module is divided into standard and deli-style versions, with the latter addressing packaging and labeling of cannabinoid herbal materials at the point of sale and production of pre-rolls in-store.

To support the transition, CSQ will host overview webinars on Oct. 24, Nov. 3 and Dec. 10. The organization also launched a redesigned website featuring certification details, a directory of certified sites and information about its Technical Advisory Committee.
