Farm Bureau Updates Policy On Hemp
Farmer and rancher delegates to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 101st Annual Convention today adopted policies to guide the organization’s work in 2020 on key topics, including industrial hemp.
AFBF delegates approved a recommendation of adjustments to regulatory THC levels from the current 0.3% to 1% for hemp products intended for non-human consumption.
Delegates voted to support allowing a higher THC level in hemp, giving AFBF staff the flexibility to engage in discussions with regulators and lawmakers about the appropriate legal level, and to increase the window of time farmers are allowed to conduct THC testing, acknowledging the many questions about how the testing process will work and the potential for backlogs.
“I think people are starting to understand some of the nuances to making industrial hemp a legal and viable product, such as THC levels, and the different things that it can be used for,” said Michigan Farm Bureau board member Travis Fahley. “So, it’s starting to gain some traction and becoming a bigger piece in the marketplace.”
