Garden Centers Honor First Responders & Healthcare Workers
Garden centers across the country were honoring mothers on the front line this Mother’s Day by giving away ‘Pink Splendor’ hydrangeas. More than 700,000 Monrovia garden center customers across the country honored mothers in their local community who are first responders and healthcare workers.
Each giveaway was personalized by the garden center, ranging from scheduled events, random drawings and surprise gifting. At an event in Chicago, City Escape Garden Center & Design Studio partnered with the city to honor women first responders. You can view the Chicago Police Department’s video of the event on their Facebook page.
Country Mile Gardens in Morristown, New Jersey, donated the hydrangeas to the Far Hills-Bedminster First Aid Squad. These are just a few examples of the many events that took place across the country.
Garden center customers that received a Monrovia shipment through May 8 were given up to 50 ‘Pink Splendor’ hydrangeas in #2 pots at no cost.
“We are taking this opportunity to give back to mothers who are facing big challenges and providing for their communities,” said Jonathan Pedersen, vice president of sales and business development at Monrovia. “The hydrangeas were shipped ready to bloom and with a thank-you tag for that special mom.”
‘Pink Splendor’ hydrangea is a dwarf, reblooming hydrangea with large heads of soft-pink flowers. It begins producing blossoms in spring and continues on and off throughout the summer, adding years of beauty to partially shaded landscapes. Its small size also makes it a good choice for container gardening.
