SNA Names 2016 Award Recipients
The Southern Nursery Association (SNA) has announced the recipients of the 2016 SNA Awards. The awards were presented at the 118th Annual SNA Business Meeting on Sept. 1, at The Classic Center in Athens, Georgia during SEGreen.
Award recipients include:
Porter Henegar Memorial Award — John Lea-Cox, professor and nursery research and Extension specialist, University of Maryland, College Park
Don Shadow Award of Excellence — Michael A. Dirr, retired professor, University of Georgia
Slater Wight Memorial Award — Eelco Henry Tinga, Jr. of Tinga Nursery, Castle Hayne, North Carolina
David E. Laird, Sr. Memorial Award — Matthew W. Sawyer, CEO of Bennett’s Creek Wholesale Nursery, Smithfield, Virginia
Pinnacle Award — Howard Smith of Haviland Plastics Products, Haviland, Ohio
Environmental Award — Tim Thoms, Thoms Trees and Plants, Fayetteville, Georgia
This year, three industry members received SNA Honorary Member Awards:
- Ted Stephens, Nurseries Caroliniana, North Augusta, South Carolina
- Marc Teffeau, former ANLA director of horticultural research and HRI, Canton, Georgia
- Tom Yeager, professor, environmental horticulture, University of Florida, IFAS, Gainesville, Florida
