Gazania
Big Kiss is a new series featuring full, bushy plants that will fill containers quickly. Available in two bold colors and a mix, they should reach 8-10 inches tall and wide. White Flame boasts rose stripes against a creamy white background, while Yellow Flame shows mahogany-red stripes against a bright-yellow background.
When sown in a 288-cell tray, plants will be ready for transplant in five to six weeks. Maintain media pH at 5.8-6.2 and EC at 1.0-1.5. After transplants are established, keep night temperature at 55-60° F, with moderate day temperatures.
Alternate between moisture levels, wet and dry. Provide horizontal airflow to aid in drying down the media through evapotranspiration, allowing better penetration of oxygen to the roots. Apply 150- to 200-ppm nitrogen as needed with a fertilizer containing low amounts of ammonium and phosphorus.
Common diseases include Botrytis, Rhizoctonia and Sclerotinia. Watch for thrips, spider mites and aphids.
