Impatiens
The new Lollipop series of Impatiens walleriana offers an intense pop of color at retail. Plants feature excellent branching and uniformity across the series. Lollipop varieties offer full plants that hide the pot.
Light is necessary for germination. If utilizing a germination chamber, provide 10-100 foot-candles to aid in germination and reduce stretch. Maintain temperature at 72-75° F until day six, then reduce slightly to 70-72° F. A germination temperature below 70° F will slow the speed and uniformity of germination. Begin fertilizing early on day three with low rates of 25- to 50-ppm nitrogen using a calcium-based feed.
Growing on, maintain media pH at 6.2-6.5 and ED at 0.75-1.0. Provide light levels of 2,500 foot-candles. Supplemental lighting can be used to produce sturdy seedlings. Maintain temperature at 66-68° F nights and 70-75° F days. Fertilize every second or third watering with a calcium-based feed at 75- to 100-ppm nitrogen.
Post harvest, fertilize with potassium nitrate at 100-150 ppm one to two weeks prior to shipping.
