Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer Welcomes Overseas Members
As of Jan. 1, 2006, non-EU growers are eligible to join the Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer cooperative, , commonly referred to as the Aalsmeer flower auction, in The Netherlands,. This decision was approved at the Aalsmeer members’ meeting, held in December 2005. Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer is the first flower auction cooperative in the world to accept overseas members, according to Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer.
“Cooperative membership is an attractive proposition for overseas suppliers wishing to secure the future of their products and pricing policy at Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer, ” said Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer.
The meeting additionally decided to cut auction rates and expand the commercial services provided by Marketing & Sales Aalsmeer to growers.
Lastly, members decided to shorten the member loan period (initially from 10 years to nine and, ultimately, to seven years) and introduce a voluntary member loan.
