Finding the Next 40 By Tim Hodson

This month we begin accepting nominations for the Class of 2017 of GPN’s 40 Under 40. Now entering its sixth year, GPN’s 40 Under 40 is a chance to recognize the future of the horticulture industry and the individuals who will make it happen.40 under 40 logo

Each year in our May issue, we celebrate the achievements of 40 young individuals who excel in their professional and personal endeavors. These men and women play by a different set of rules when it comes to how they do their jobs and live their lives. They are today’s pioneers for tomorrow’s future.

We are looking for growers, breeders, garden center operators, landscapers, researchers, academics, marketers/ communicators and scientists — they might be owners, managers or up-and- comers with one-of-a-kind titles.

No matter what their job title or role is, the two things they have in common are they are innovators and they have that little something extra. They are passionate about our industry and where it is going. And they are determined to make a difference.

Who Will You Nominate

Do you know someone who you think is a superstar who the rest of the industry should know about? Do you think that person should be a member of the Class of 2017? Those are the type of people we are looking for and we need you to nominate them — and you should do it today!

Anyone in the horticulture industry under the age of 40 (as of Jan. 31, 2017) is eligible to be nominated. Previously nominated individuals who have not been selected in prior years can be nominated again as long as they have not yet turned 40.

To nominate someone for the Class of 2017, just go to www.gpnmag.com/40-under-40-awards and fill out the nomination form. It’s that simple. You can also view the previous 200 honorees from the last five years on our website.

The deadline for nominations is Jan. 23, 2017.

Speaking of Honors

The July 2015 issue of GPN was recently named as a finalist for a 2016 Eddie Award for Best Single Issue by Folio: magazine — the magazine for people who produce magazines and “celebrates excellence in editorial and design.”

The judges evaluate magazines on how well they fulfill their own mission statements, the quality of their content, and how the overall design and production supports their mission.

The Eddie Awards are the largest awards competition in the publishing industry — and GPN was the only magazine in the horticulture industry to qualify for this year’s awards!
