On Dec. 3, the Colombian Association of Flower Exporters, Asocolflores, paid tribute to Peter Hannaford to acknowledge his contributions to the development of Colombian floriculture.

In his speech, Asocolflores Executive President Augusto Solano stressed that the Colombian floriculture industry wanted not only to express its great appreciation but also bestow its recognition for the man who contributed to the creation, development and bolstering of the nation’s floriculture industry. Thanks to his business foresight, entrepreneurial spirit, unshakable tenacity and, above all, his love for the country, Colombia has gone on to be recognized as the world’s top producer of flowers for exportation.

He also discussed Hannaford’s ties to the industry that hark back to the ’60s at companies such as Sun Valley, Jardines de Ecuador, Jardines de los Andes and Floramérica.

Hannaford thanked tribute attendees and said that while Colombian floriculture might be going through rough times, he was convinced that the drive of Colombian businesspeople would not falter and that the industry would press on.
