BioWorks has received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for PRINCIPLE WP, a biological insecticide formulated with Beauveria bassiana. Registrations are expected in all 50 states, including California.

The product is labeled for use against thrips, aphids, whiteflies and other pests and can be applied as a foliar spray, soil drench, dip or aerial treatment. PRINCIPLE WP is approved for indoor and outdoor use on vegetables, nursery crops, ornamentals, fruits, vines and hemp. It features a four-hour reentry interval, a zero-day preharvest interval and is exempt from residue tolerance.

BioWorks said the product’s complex mode of action reduces the risk of resistance and is compatible with conventional pesticides and other biologicals. It is OMRI listed for organic production.

“This news further expands our sustainable insect management solutions portfolio for commercial horticulture and specialty ag markets,” said vice president of sales and technical services Troy Bettner.

BioWorks has worked with Beauveria bassiana for more than two decades, offering technical support to commercial growers using biological pest control methods. The company plans to announce availability as it completes state-level registrations.
