The excitement for home vegetable gardening was in the air in Chicago on Friday, May 13, as thousands of early-morning commuters received a free tomato plant from Burpee Home Gardens. With the frost-free date passed, Burpee told Chicagoans to get out and grow, and kicked off the vegetable-growing season by giving away more than 2,000 plants in about 30 minutes.

While in the city, members of the Burpee Home Gardens team generated enthusiasm for homegrown vegetables, and encouraged passersby to “get their garden on” this year. Each Burpee plant included information on the new mobile gardening tool, the Burpee Garden Coach, and directed consumers where to find more Burpee plants in stores this season.
