Dramm hosts USDA deputy secretary, showcases fertilizer expansion
The Dramm Corp. recently hosted USDA deputy secretary Xochitl Torres Small and other USDA officials for a facility tour. The family-owned company is the recipient of a $776,000 USDA Fertilizer Production Expansion Program (FPEP) grant, which it is using to enhance its fish processing plant in Algoma, boost production capacity and install solar panels to reduce its carbon footprint.
The grant supports Dramm’s production of Drammatic Liquid Fish Fertilizers, which are derived from fish offal collected from fishermen. These fertilizers, designed for both organic and conventional farming, help divert waste from landfills and promote sustainable soil health.
“We are so very honored to have had USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small visit,” said Heidi Dramm Becker, corporate relations at Dramm. “The grant allows us to expand and improve our fish processing plant so we can provide more quality fertilizer that enhances soil health.”
Torres Small also announced an additional $120 million for six fertilizer production projects across the U.S., including Wisconsin, to promote sustainable agriculture practices.
