Breeder showcase returns to Cincinnati Zoo, offering ornamental plant trials
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens, in partnership with Eason Horticultural Resources (EHR), will host the second annual Breeder Showcase & Trials on Aug. 28, 2024. This event was supported by more than 40 sponsors and was designed to highlight the summer performance of various plants across the zoo’s botanical gardens.
Attendees are invited to visit the Rockdale Urban Learning Center gardens and engage with zoo staff, plant breeders and vendors during a tradeshow. A new feature of this year’s show includes a preview of the zoo’s upcoming Elephant Trek exhibit.
The 2023 showcase featured over 500 plant genetics, and this year’s event will offer around the same amount of plant genetics. The trials allow ornamental plant growers to assess the season-long performance of different varieties.
The gardens, which are integrated into the zoo’s landscape, attract both horticulture professionals and the general public. Last year’s event drew more than 300 attendees and captivated over one million zoo visitors throughout the season.
