Florida Recognizes Riverview Flower FarmSource: Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

Earlier this month, Riverview Flower Farm, Riverview, Fla., received Florida’s 2006 Commissioner’s Agricultural-Environmental Leadership Award. The award was presented at the Florida Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting in Daytona Beach. Lightsey Cattle Co., Lake Wales, Fla., and Tampa Wholesale Nursery, Dover, Fla., were also honored at the meeting.

“The Ag-Environmental Leadership Award program spotlights the environmentally innovative farming practices of [Florida’s] growers and ranchers,” said Charles H. Bronson, Florida’s agriculture commissioner. “Nominees for the awards come from different parts of Florida’s agricultural industry, but they all share a commitment to protect and preserve Florida’s resources while continuing to provide agricultural products for our people.”

Over the past 13 years, the awards program has recognized 41 Florida companies for their environmental contributions to the state.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services also produced a videotape highlighting the accomplishments of this year’s winners. To see Riverview Flower Farm’s video segment, go to www.florida-agriculture.com/videos/Ag_Environ_Award_2006_Riverview_Flower_Farm.wmv.
