Grower, retailer partnership supports breast cancer resource centers with orchid sales

Westerlay Orchids and Albertsons have partnered again this October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For every Pink Gemstone orchid sold at Albertsons, $2 will be donated to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center Seattle division and The Stanford Cancer Research Fund.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women, accounting for 30% of new cancer diagnoses. Over 300,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2024.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center focuses on advancing cancer research and improving access to clinical trials. Donations from the sale of the orchids will help fund innovative studies aimed at finding new treatments.

“Almost everyone is affected by breast cancer in some way,” said Westerlay president Toine Overgaag. “We’re proud to work alongside Albertsons to provide a generous donation through these unique pink orchids.”

Westerlay Orchids, a third-generation family-owned farm in Carpinteria, California, produces 4 million orchids annually. The company supplies commercial buyers across several western states.
