HRI awards 2024 Akehurst Scholarship
The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI) has named Elliott Kenney, a graduate student in landscape architecture at the University of Maryland, as the 2024 recipient of the Carville M. Akehurst Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, founded by the Mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show (MANTS) in 2002, honors the contributions of Carville M. Akehurst to the horticulture industry and his dedication to education.
Kenney, a third-year student, focuses her research on designing accessible public parks and using VR technology to model urban flooding. Her work aims to address environmental challenges and create inclusive green spaces.
“This scholarship honors our father’s belief in the power of education and his passion for the green industry,” said Vanessa Finney, executive vice president of MANTS. “We are thrilled to support Elliott Kenney’s educational journey and look forward to her contributions to the industry.”
