Marijuana Legalization Bill Passes House in NM

After a three-hour debate Thursday night, New Mexico lawmakers pushed the state closer to legalizing recreational marijuana for adult use.

The state House of Representatives approved a measure — by a narrow 36-34 margin — that would allow any resident 21 years or older to purchase, possess and use cannabis, which would also create a state oversight commission.

House Bill 356 is now headed to the Senate for consideration. If the Senate approves it, it would go to Gov. Grisham, who has said she favors legalizing recreational marijuana if proper safeguards are put in place.
