Marvin Miller To Receive SGC Award
Currently a market research manager at Ball Horticultural Company, Miller says, “The focus of my market research efforts involves researching the structure, conduct and performance of the horticulture industry, with current emphasis on North American floriculture. I travel extensively, visiting both greenhouses and retail establishments. I frequently write about and speak on industry trends affecting our industry.”
Miller, a native of Baltimore, Md., earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida. He received both his B.S. in Horticulture and M.S. in Agricultural Science from Purdue University. His thesis, “Consumer Preferences For and Attitudes Toward Cut Flower Items in Supermarkets” was well received, earning him the distinction of being a research pioneer in floriculture mass marketing.
Since 2005, Miller has served as the President of the Board of Directors of America in Bloom. He is also on the Board of Directors of OFA, An Association of Floriculture Professionals, as well as Seeley Conference, Cornell University’s Department of Horticulture. Additionally, he is a member of the Purdue University College of Agriculture Dean’s Advisory Committee, the Society of American Florists’ Government Relations Committee and the Society of American Florists/U.S. Department of Agriculture, Floriculture Statistics Task Force.
