Mitchell’s Announces Poinsettia Trials Results

On Dec. 2, approximately 364 people attended Mitchell’s Nursery & Greenhouse Poinsettia Open House in King, North Carolina.

The grower/retailer grew more than 9,000 poinsettias for the 2018 season.

During the open house attendees were asked to rank their favorite poinsettia varieties.

For this year’s trials, three plants of each variety were labeled for judging and were categorized as novelty, red, white and pink.

The top three overall scores went to:

1. ‘Princettia White’
2. ‘Ice Punch’
3. ‘Luv U Pink Hot’

The top three reds were:

1. ‘Christmas Feel Merlot’
2. ‘Christmas Wish’
3. ‘Burning Ember’

The top three scoring novelties were:

1. ‘Ice Punch’
2. ‘Ruby Frost’
3. ‘Tapestry’

The three highest scoring whites were:

1. ‘Princettia White’
2. ‘Frozen’
3. ‘White Wonder’

In the pink category, the top three were:

1. ‘Luv U Pink Hot’
2. ‘J Adore Hot Pink’
3. ‘Love U Pink Soft’
