National Garden Bureau Announces New Executive Director
The board of directors of All-America Selections and National Garden Bureau Inc. has selected a new executive director, Diane Blazek, to succeed Nona Wolfram-Koivula following her 25-year career.
Blazek was previously with Arment Dietrich, Inc., a boutique public relations firm in Chicago, where she served as vice president of business development then as president. Prior to that, she was president and publisher for Ball Publishing for 15 years.
“I am honored to be the one chosen to carry on Nona’s work with these two organizations,” Blazek said.
Wolfram-Koivula was highly respected within both organizations, and All-America Selections President Jim Nau stressed that her decision to retire — and the selection of her subsequent successor — was not taken lightly. “All-America Selections and the National Garden Bureau honor her tenure and her leadership,” he said. “We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors.”
“Nona was instrumental in getting our message out to the gardening world,” added Bill Watson, National Garden Bureau president. “She will be missed, and we are thankful for all she did for both NGB and AAS.”
Difficult economic times cast a shadow on any organization, but Blazek looks on the future with optimism. “Times have changed, and there are certainly challenges ahead, but there are also some wonderful opportunities for both organizations,” Blazek said. “I look forward to building upon the foundations in place to work with and benefit both the horticulture and gardening communities.”
For 75 years, All-America Selections has promoted new garden seed varieties that pass the test of superior garden performance judged in impartial trials throughout North America. The National Garden Bureau is a nonprofit organization providing reliable, accurate information on flower and vegetable gardening. Part of NGB’s mission is to turn people into gardeners.
