New lighting system optimizes greenhouse energy use

Sollum Technologies and Leaficient have partnered to develop a plant-adaptive LED lighting system that adjusts in real time based on plant productivity and growth rates.

Traditional lighting strategies rely on Daily Light Integral (DLI) to optimize plant growth. However, research shows that plant productivity varies due to environmental and biological factors. The new Sollum-Leaficient system integrates real-time plant measurement technology with dynamic LED lighting to ensure optimal light absorption.

“Growers are often paying for photons that plants are not using effectively,” said François R-Moisan, CTO and co-founder of Sollum Technologies. “By integrating Leaficient’s real-time plant measurement technology with our dynamic LED lighting solution, we can now ensure that every photon is maximally utilized—boosting yields while reducing energy costs.”

The system measures photosynthetic efficiency and adjusts light intensity accordingly, reducing energy waste and optimizing crop performance. This advancement benefits greenhouse and vertical farm operators by improving yields, triggering fruiting and flowering at ideal times and enhancing nutrient and flavor profiles.

Industry professionals can learn more at Indoor Ag-Con, where the Sollum Technologies team will be at booth 1125 on March 11-12.
