Online horticulture training courses

Two online training courses for greenhouse and horticulture professionals will be offered from Sept. 8 to Oct. 3, 2025, focusing on workforce management and plant disease diagnosis.

Success with your Latino Workforce

This course will be taught by Claudio Pasian, professor emeritus at Ohio State University’s Department of Horticulture and Crop Science. The course is designed to help non-Latino supervisors and coworkers improve communication and efficiency in multicultural workplaces. This year’s program adds Spanish-language training and an AI chatbot to support translation of horticulture terms.

Field Diagnosis of Plant Diseases

This course will be taught by Carrie Harmon, director of the UF/IFAS Plant Diagnostic Center in Gainesville, Florida, and co-director of the National Plant Diagnostic Network. The course covers field-friendly methods to identify diseases and distinguish them from other issues. Past participants have described Harmon as a “clear, concise and informative instructor” who helps them feel more confident diagnosing plant health problems.

Each course includes eight modules delivered through pre-recorded videos, discussion boards with professors and quizzes. Modules are released twice weekly, with all material available online at any time.

There is a fee for R\registration, with a 20 percent discount for groups of five or more. More information is available at hort.ifas.ufl.edu/training.
