Pantone’s 2025 color inspires earthy garden trends

Pantone has announced mocha mousse, a warm and earthy brown, as its 2025 Color of the Year, citing its comforting and natural appeal. The shade reflects a growing trend toward reconnecting with nature, according to the Pantone Color Institute.

“Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace the aspirational and luxe,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the institute.PW_Pantone-Color-of-the-Year-2025_Graphic-01The color is described as evoking sophistication and sensorial richness, making it ideal for incorporating earthy elegance into gardens and greenhouses. Proven Winners has highlighted several Mocha Mousse-inspired plants for growers and horticulturists, including ‘Dolce Toffee Tart’ heuchera and ‘Decadence Dark Chocolate’ baptisia.

Additionally, the institute’s accompanying Floral Pathways palette, which features complementary tones like cornflower blue, willow and gardenia, offers inspiration for garden designs. Plants such as ‘Invincibelle Sublime’ hydrangea, ‘Laguna Sky Blue’ lobelia and ‘Rock ‘N Grow Coraljade’ sedum align with the palette’s diverse colors.

Growers can use mocha mousse and the Floral Pathways palette to create landscapes and plant combinations that reflect nature’s harmony while promoting comfort and wellness.
