Plantpeddler Inc. hosts event, inspires next generation of horticulturalists
On Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, Plantpeddler hosted its inaugural event to support and inspire our next generation of Horticulturalists.
The event, titled “Educate the Educators: Ag Educator Greenhouse Workshop Day,” provided a day of interactive learning for ag instructors, who have or are considering a greenhouse at their school. Instructors from approximately 60 schools in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin attended the learning event.
Teachers were able to obtain continuing education hours for the day. Along with the team at Plantpeddler, a multitude of industry representatives offered their time and talents to present workshops on greenhouse production, curriculum and fundraising.
In addition to industry reps, the keynote speaker for this event was Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig. Naig also honored Glen Dillon, his former high school ag instructor, who he credited with being “the reason I got into Horticulture.” This special moment for Naig and Dillon demonstrated how important and impactful teachers are to their students.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture, Iowa State University Extension, Iowa State University Ag Education and the Iowa FFA endorsed the event. Highlights from the day are available on a You Tube video.
