Plantpeddler to Host Poinsettia Variety Day

Plantpeddler is hosting a side-by-side comparison of over 150 commercial and pre-release poinsettia varieties, produced under true production protocols and environmental conditions.

The event will take place Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 524 7th St. SW, Cresco, Iowa.

All major poinsettia breeders will be represented in the trial, including Beekenkamp, Dümmen Orange, Lazzeri, Rinehart, Selecta One, Suntory and Syngenta Flowers. Industry representatives will be present to support their genetics and growers.

New this year is a “Lunch & Learn” meal and tech talk by Gary Vollmer, sponsored by Selecta One.

“As a leader in rooted poinsettias, the Poinsettia Variety Day is Plantpeddler’s investment in the growers producing this crop, the brokers supporting the sales, and commitment to the breeders who bring innovation and advancement in this key genus,” said Mike Gooder, Plantpeddler president.

“The Plantpeddler poinsettia comparison trial site reflects the low light growing conditions of many northern part of the U.S. very well. The trials are very well grown and executed, and this trial site is a critical addition to other key poinsettia trial sites in the U.S.,” said Karl Trellinger of Syngenta Flowers.

You can RSVP by phone at 800.827.1654 and ask for Stacy, or send an email to [email protected]

Rooms are being held at the Cresco Super 8 Motel for Wednesday night (Dec. 4). Please call 563.547.9988 to make a reservation, and mention the Plantpeddler Poinsettia Trial.
