Stuppy Greenhouse marks 150 years

Stuppy Greenhouse recently announced it is celebrating 150 years of business. The company has been family owned since its start in 1873. The company’s decades of experience as growers plays a part in every decision made as leading manufacturers of state-of-the-art greenhouses.

From the time founder Laurence “L.J.” Stuppy began selling roses from a storefront in St. Joseph, Missouri, Stuppy Greenhouse has adapted as the markets changed, and sometimes changed the market itself. Stuppy’s business direction has evolved from its origin as a cut flower supplier to a wholesale floral supply (ribbons and vases) business to a successful greenhouse construction and manufacturing company. Stuppy closed the cut flower business and the wholesale floral division decades ago, but the company — and its president, Matt Stuppy — remain growers at heart.

More recently, Stuppy Greenhouse has expanded into offering construction services along with its greenhouse structures (all made in the U.S.) and is identifying new areas where it can offer innovative technology, such as heating and growing systems.
