Syngenta Professional Products is accepting applications for the Syngenta Grower of Tomorrow 2009 internship program. The program, in its second year, is open to students pursuing degrees in agronomy or horticulture from 28 select universities in the United States.

The first-place winner of the Syngenta Grower of Tomorrow scholarship will receive a $2,500 scholarship and a paid internship based at Syngenta North American headquarters in Greensboro, N.C. Two runner-up finalists will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Interested students should contact the department chair or a faculty member at their university to request an application.

The internship program may include the following:

  • Syngenta mentors – The Grower of Tomorrow will meet with mentors from the four Syngenta companies (Conrad Fafard, Inc.; Syngenta Flowers, Inc.; Syngenta Horticultural Services; and Syngenta Professional Products) to gain industry insight. The intern will have the opportunity to learn more about the challenges the industry faces, critical pest issues and different components of the business.
  • Trade shows/industry events – The winner will attend the 2009 OFA Short Course and the 2009 TOCA (Turf and Ornamental Communicators Association) 20th anniversary meeting. The intern will write an article on his or her experiences at the OFA Short Course to be featured on the Syngenta GreenCast website.
  • Travel to Syngenta companies – As part of the complete learning experience, the Grower of Tomorrow recipient will have the chance to visit other Syngenta ornamental businesses.
