Tennessee Pollinators launches Milkweed Initiative
Tennessee Pollinators launches Milkweed Initiative to support monarch conservation and promote pollinator-friendly habitats across the state.
Tennessee Pollinators has announced the launch of its statewide Milkweed Initiative, aimed at promoting the conservation of pollinators, particularly monarch butterflies. The program educates communities on the vital role of milkweed in supporting these populations and encourages Tennesseans to plant more of the native plant.
Monarch populations have dwindled significantly due to climate change, with milkweed, crucial for monarch caterpillars, disappearing rapidly. The nonprofit emphasizes that even small habitat restorations can have a substantial impact.
“The milkweed plant is a lifesaver for pollinators — especially monarch butterflies,” said mike mcclanahan, program director at Tennessee Pollinators. “By cultivating milkweed in our backyards, parks, farms, and community gardens, we’re ensuring that future generations of Tennesseans can enjoy the awe-inspiring beauty and ecological benefits of these remarkable creatures.”
The initiative offers milkweed starter kits at discounted rates, educational resources and community grants to encourage local efforts in creating pollinator-friendly spaces. By planting milkweed, Tennesseans can contribute to monarch conservation and bolster agricultural productivity.
