UConn Extension Sponsoring Perennial Plant ConferenceSource: University of Connecticut

The Perennial Plant Conference — A Conference for the Landscape and Horticulture Professional will take place March 5 at the Lewis B. Rome Commons in Connecticut.

The Perennial Plant Conference — A Conference for the Landscape and Horticulture Professional will take place March 5 at the Lewis B. Rome Commons on the University of Connecticut Storrs campus. The conference, sponsored by UConn Extension, will address topics such as plant production, sustainable landscape design and retail marketing.

Speakers at the conference will include :

Denise Adams, ornamental plant historian, Stony Point, New York, will present “American Home Landscape: A Historical Perspective”.

Mark Brand, professor of horticulture, University of Connecticut (UConn) Department of Plant Science & Landscape Architecture will speak on “UConn Plant Introductions: Know Them, Grow Them”.

Ben Campbell, extension economist, UConn Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics, will present a talk entitled “Consumer Perceptions: Sustainable, Organic, Eco-friendly, Local”.

Mark Dwyer, director of horticulture, Rotary Botanical Gardens, Janesville, Wisconsin, will give two talks, “Plants and Design Features for the Sensory Garden” and Landscape Design: Back to Basics”.

Kelly Norris, horticulture manager, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Des Moines, Iowa will discuss “Dig This, Stylish Gardening for Savvy Gardeners”.

Kristin Schwab, landscape architect and associate professor, UConn Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture and Eileen McHugh, University Landscape Architect, UConn Planning, Architecture & Engineering Services will speak on the “Rise of the Perennial Plant Palette: Examining the New UConn Landscape”.

Kimberly Stoner, associate agricultural scientist, department of entomology, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven, Connecticut will be speaking on “Growing Flowers That Benefit Bees”.

Michael Yanny, owner of JN Plant Selection in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin will speak on “New Woody Plants at Johnson’s Nursery” and “Great Woody Plants for Your Most Discerning Gardeners”.
