Vestaron insecticide wins EPA approval for greenhouse use
Vestaron Corp. has obtained EPA approval for its second active ingredient, which targets pests including aphids, mites, drosophila and whiteflies.
BASIN, Vestaron’s second novel-acting, peptide-based insecticide, provides maximum residue level exemption for crops grown indoors or in greenhouses, according to a news release. Approval for outdoor use is expected by the end of the year, according to the release.
Vestaron’s first active ingredient, the award-winning SPEAR bioinsecticide, was commercialized in 2020.
“We are thrilled to receive EPA approval for our second active ingredient, BASIN,” Juan Estupinan, interim CEO and president of Vestaron, said in the release. “This is a significant achievement in agricultural crop protection and is a testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation as we bring yet another novel insecticide solution to growers.”
Derived from modified spider venom, BASIN reduces reliance on synthetic chemicals and is soft on pollinators, workers, beneficials and local biodiversity, according to Vestaron. The insecticide is expected to be available by early 2025.
