Last week, bedding plant producer ColorPoint in Paris, Kentucky, announced it has transitioned to become a hemp-only company and has merged operations with AgTech Scientific also of Paris, Kentucky.
It was also announced that MichiCann Medical Inc., operating as Red White & Bloom, had signed a letter of intent to acquire the ColorPoint facilities in Granville, Illinois.
According to a press release issued by RWB, the Illinois operations are big part of the company’s plans to establish large-scale production capabilities focused on hemp extraction and product manufacturing.
Since the 2018 Farm bill legalized the production of hemp, many growers have been investigating the crop as a new option for their production operations.

Lowe’s Seeks Location for Global Technology Hub
Lowe’s reportedly is looking at locations near Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dallas, Texas, to be the site of a new global technology hub that is expected to house 1,000 of IT professionals and software engineers. The home improvement retailer’s CIO Seemantini Godbole told the Charlotte Observer that the new hub would help “support our focus on improving technology capabilities and solutions across our business.” A decision on where to locate the hub is expected by the end of this summer.
On May 28, Walmart announced it had appointed Suresh Kumar to a new elevated chief technology officer and chief development officer role reporting directly to president and CEO Doug McMillon. Kumar brings more than 25 years of technology leadership experience coming from Google serving as vice president and general manager of display, video, app ads and analytics. Prior to that he worked for Microsoft, Amazon and IBM.
Meijer Opens First Supercenters in Cleveland Area
Meijer opened its first three supercenters in northeast Ohio on May 14. The new stores in Avon, Mentor and Stow offer a state-of-the-art retail experience that combines fresh groceries, general merchandise and low prices with a customer- focus. The 155,000 square-foot stores are open 24 hours a day, 364 days a year and are among five new supercenters opening in the Midwest this year. As part of its ongoing community support, Meijer donates more than 6% of its net profit to charitable organizations annually, and each of its stores work with local foodbanks and pantries to help fight hunger.
