Hemp production value drops 71%, USDA finds

The National Agricultural Statistics Service, part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has released its latest National Hemp Report. The report found that, in 2022, the country’s total value of hemp production — in the open and under protection — totaled $238 million, down 71% from 2021.

More specifically, hemp grown under protection totaled $26.1 million, down 77% from 2021. The amount of square footage hemp growers used for this production was also down 71%, to 4.58 million square feet.

According to the report, the value of hemp clones and transplants grown under protection totaled $738,000, down 97%; the value of floral hemp grown under protection totaled $24.7 million, down 62%; and the value of hemp grown under protection for seed totaled $576,000, down 98% from last year.
