American Horticultural Society wins GardenComm honors
The American Gardener, a membership magazine by the American Horticultural Society (AHS), received three awards from Garden Communicators International (GardenComm) at its annual conference Aug. 28 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
David J. Ellis, editor of The American Gardener since 1998, was inducted into the GardenComm Hall of Fame. Ellis has been a member of AHS since 1994, overseeing nearly 200 issues and managing several gardening books. He will retire in December 2024 but will lead an AHS travel program to South Africa in 2025.
In addition to Ellis’s honor, contributing writers Marianne Willburn and Gail Hudson earned GardenComm’s Laurel Media Awards. Willburn received a gold medal for her column series, “In Defense of Gardening,” while Hudson won a silver medal for her article, “Kicking the Plastic Pot Habit.”
“These accolades highlight the exceptional quality of our editorial team,” said Suzanne Laporte, president and CEO of AHS.
GardenComm Executive Director Chris Sabbarese also praised the honorees, noting the contributions of The American Gardener to professional horticultural communications.
Founded in 1922, AHS is a leading national gardening organization headquartered at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia.
