Biotech Firm Aims to Improve Industrial Hemp
Biotechnology firm Benson Hill Biosystems announced an agreement with California Hemp, a hemp-seed company, and Edward Charles Brummer, a researcher at the University of California-Davis.
Brummer and the companies will work to produce hemp strains that have high concentrations of the beneficial substance CBD and low concentrations of the psychoactive substance THC.
Benson Hill’s CropOS design platform uses predictive analytics to identify and select desirable characteristics, allowing breeders to bypass generations of traditional field trials.
