De Ruiter showcases tomato innovations at Canadian Greenhouse Conference

At this year’s Canadian Greenhouse Conference, De Ruiter presented new disease-resistant tomato varieties and digital tools for growers in protected agriculture. The brand highlighted advancements in seeds resistant to Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV), a major concern for the global tomato industry.

Stephanie Poletti, protected culture marketing manager, emphasized the importance of addressing growers’ needs. “Now more than ever, growers need reliable varieties that deliver high performance and disease resistance,” she said.

A standout at the event was the introduction of Devoured, a cherry plum loose tomato hybrid with high disease resistance and strong consumer appeal. Internal trials showed Devoured had a higher sugar content and consumer preference compared to competing varieties.

In addition, De Ruiter offered a virtual tour of its Tomato Demo House, showcasing the latest developments in glasshouse production. Attendees also received updated disease guides covering common vegetable diseases, which aim to help growers identify and manage crop issues.

The company continues to work closely with growers to support year-round production and provide solutions to improve quality and yield.
