DeVroomen, a wholesale supplier of flowering bulbs and plant products, has been named Landscape Illinois’ Supplier of the Year, recognizing its contributions to the green industry and long-standing support of the association.
The company was founded in 1925 by Jacobus Theodorus de Vroomen and now ships more than six million bulbs, tubers and rhizomes annually to landscapers, retailers, public gardens and municipal airports across the U.S.
“DeVroomen has been a trusted, local partner for years,” said Kim Hartmann, president of Landscape Illinois.
The award also highlights DeVroomen’s operational scale and logistics expertise, which includes nationwide shipping, pre-cooling of bulbs for southern markets and rerouting of temperature-sensitive orders during winter conditions. The company is based in Gurnee, Illinois.
Angela Schultz, general manager, joined the company 19 years ago and oversees operations that now extend beyond bulbs. DeVroomen supplies bedding plants, bare-root and plug perennials and brokers plugs for large growers.
Tulips remain the company’s top-selling crop, followed by daffodils. Demand is also increasing for ornamental onions because they are less attractive to deer and rabbits. Additional offerings include dahlias, caladiums, calla lilies, elephant ears, cacti, succulents and edible crops such as seed potatoes, onions, rhubarb, shallots and asparagus roots.
In recent years, the company also launched a children’s gardening line tied to Sesame Street characters, aimed at promoting environmental awareness through hands-on growing activities. New 2026 items include dahlias, begonias and bare-root astilbes for garden centers.
Landscape Illinois Magazine reported the award in its January 2026 issue.
