Monrovia showcases new hydrangea with the Centennial Celebration Garden
Monrovia introduced its new hydrangea ‘Centennial Ruby’ during a garden event at the Pasadena Showcase House of Design as part of the company’s 100th anniversary celebration.
The company created the Centennial Celebration Garden as an official garden partner of the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts. The outdoor installation highlights ‘Centennial Ruby’ in a residential landscape setting inspired by current garden design trends. Approximately 30,000 visitors are expected to experience the garden during the event run.

The private launch event included Southern California media, garden and lifestyle creators, and members of the Rosedale and Usrey families, including grandchildren of founder Harry Rosedale Sr. During the event, Monrovia CEO Jonathan Pedersen discussed the development and significance of the new hydrangea variety.

“’Centennial Ruby’ represents everything Monrovia has stood for over the past century: exceptional genetics, beauty, and plants that inspire people to create meaningful spaces,” Pedersen said. “The Centennial Celebration Garden provides a unique opportunity to show this plant in the landscape to thousands of visitors.”
‘Centennial Ruby’ features ruby-red blooms that deepen in color as the flowers mature. The variety is being released as a limited-edition introduction tied to Monrovia’s centennial year, and each plant includes a commemorative tag.
